About 3.6 billion people will use cloud-based services over the next four years, according to a May report released by Juniper Research.
The report, titled “Cloud Computing – Consumer Markets: Strategies and Forecasts 2014 – 2018,” said that about 2.4 billion people use cloud-based services today, but that figure should rise by 2018, thanks to advances in cloud storage, music and games.
An article at Cloud Pro said the report analyzed the various security and costs of the consumer cloud market, including available service delivery models (SaaS, PaaS and IaaS) and common major deployment models (public, private and hybrid clouds).
By 2018, the bulk of the consumer cloud revenue would come from streaming services and cloud gaming, while cloud storage services find attracting paying subscribers a struggle, according to the research.
However, companies of all sizes are already offering consumers and enterprise users their own public or private cloud storage at a variety of price points, including free consumer storage and file sharing.
